All Female Panel in First Grade Womens
A few photos from the FGW match at Footy Park today, and some words from our AFLCUA Women’s Representative, Cara Cook:
“What a momentous day for umpiring in Canberra with an all-female umpiring panel running the Womens First Grade match between Eastlake and Tuggeranong.
As the AFLCUA women’s liaison to the League I am extremely proud of this achievement, and hope it is a sign of many more games like this to come.
While female umpire numbers across the disciplines are still somewhat low, especially in the ranks of field umpires, the AFLCUA is putting its own measures in place to work collaboratively with AFL Canberra - and help change the broader culture in the game and encourage more women into umpiring.
Seeing these 6 women mark this historic milestone is evidence the culture is changing.
I am proud to see these fine umpires represent the league today and hope to see more of this in the future.”
